Comments Thread For: Georgia's Boxing Resurgence Continues on Campus

By Thomas Gerbasi - When Gervonta Davis defeated Yuriorkis Gamboa last December at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia, no one was happier than Terri Moss. "One of the things we say here in Atlanta all the time is, It's just not a boxing town,' but at this point I'm starting to beg to differ when we just saw Gervonta Davis pack the arena," said...

And THAT is why it’s important to bring boxing back to the people.....what espn, fox, fox sports, showtime are doing with the sport is the way to make it grow again in the USA. The mainstream sports fan has literally had to be reintroduced to the sport. For so long g when someone would say “I watched the fights over the weekend” people looked shocked if you were not talking about Ufc. It’s like boxing didn’t even exist. That’s starting to slowly change and the only way it’s fam base in the USA increases is that the average sports fan has access to it. With boxing in the USA now having network options on free tv, basic cable, and premium cable/ppv those options exist rather than the 2000’s model.

It would be cool to see boxing teams put back in the universities and even in the high schools again.

The conditioning and toughness that the sport teaches is good for students. A sound mind in a sound body is something positive to shoot for.

espn and showtime are not doing ****! Pbc and fox are doing all the heavy lifting with all the primetime boxing on free tv and all that behind the scenes boxing programming... Plus all the commercials for boxing during boxing play off games and superbowl also! Fox and pbc! Espn isnt doing jack shid! Thats why pbc/fox are doing 3 times bigger ratings than espn and 4 times bigger than showtime!

That’s understandable, considering that boxing has to be a lot more dangerous than football or all-night drinking parties in campus frat houses

Not sure boxing is any more dangerous than football, especially for amateurs. I know people die in boxing, tragically, but that is still rare and I wonder if the concussion rate is much different. Definitely more healthy than drinking your nights away in a frat house.
