Comments Thread For: Even 30 Years Later, Tyson-Douglas Shock Hasn't Gotten Old

By Lyle Fitzsimmons - Buster Douglas beat Mike Tyson today. Thirty years ago today that is. And while consoling myself to the idea I'm old enough to clearly recall an event that occurred three decades ago, part of me still reacts with the same slack-jawed shock I displayed upon initially learning the fateful Tokyo result in real time back on Feb. 11, 1990...

I watched the match with my grsndfather, I was a teen back then. Tyson was "my champ", the one and only. I was too young to be a Holmes' fan, while Tyson rised in front of my eyes and I could witness most of his biggest matches.

    I was shocked.

Watched the 30 for 30 got a great education on the Buster side of things it’s usually Tyson . Never knew Busters father was a fighter and his team were so confident , I chalked it up to Tyson being knocked down in sparring and undertrained , this fight had upset all over it and Tyson still almost won . I feel sorry for the guy they said put nearly 200 K on Tyson just to win a few grand back, crazy .

Man.. the era of the Michael's!! We had Michael Jordan, Michael Jackson and Michael Tyson!!! Those where the Glory days! I did not appreciate it enough! Sports and Music was so emotional influential back then.. I hated people I never met simply because they harmed or beat one of my Icons.. For example.. (Jordan) made me not like Isaiah Thomas, Reggie Miller, and Larry Bird.. With (Jackson) I stopped drinking Pepsi, I didn't listen too Prince either and as for (Tyson) first it was James Buster Douglas, then Evander Holyfield and finally Lennox Lewis. Today I like Wilder.. And even though they never beat him.. i still find myself not liking Fury, AJ and Whyte. And its not a U.K thing.. i like Eubank jr, and Joe Joyce.

I really dislike when writers throw at insults like no hopers, tomato cans, and all of that. Just makes me realise the writer is a clown and has nothing more than a surface level of knowledge about the sport.

Tyson was not the same as 2-3 years before. Moreover, Douglas had luck, I can think of refs who could end the fight with a short counting out.

Calling Danny Williams, a top British/European fighter and fringe world level fighter a tomato can is an absolute disgrace. This guy's writing is rubbish. He has no talent for it. Just generic.
