Those are high level US friendly team sports trying to capture new markets. Boxing is everywhere already. Again if they send high level boxing to Mexico it might matter but why would Arum & Al take Bud vs Errol to Mexico when they are gonna make more gate & TV money putting it on in the US?

Team sports have longevity beyond that of a boxer that makes it a better gamble for team sports to branch out more.

I'm not thinking Spence or Crawford, I'm thinking Ramirez or Canelo! Bob, like he said, booked Ali everywhere. They did Ali vs. Frazier in Manila, but Bob never booked Manny Paquiao in Manila! Just doesn't seem right?

Do you honestly think there is as much money for Canelo or Manny in Mexico or The Philippines as there would be for them in the US? I don't.

Ali vs Frazier happened where it happened cuz the only person who could pay more for that fight than a US venue was a third world dictator lets not get confused on the realities of the situation.

If money is the bottom line, then all fights would be in the U.S.! I just can't see how it's difficult to sell a major boxing event in Mexico, especially when the Champ is Mexican? I don't think May vs. Pac should be in Manila, but Pac vs. Rios, or Pac vs. Horn...definitely!

Who said it was difficult? I said there is more money for the biggest names in the game in the US than less disposable income countries. Its just a math thing. The US gots more mfers with money to piss away so the revenue is gonna be higher.

And you do still need to be a quality guy whos sellable. Just cuz a guy could make more money in another country doesn't mean that other country has interest in them when they are an aspiring big name than later when hes a pressed in concrete proven big name.

We know there's more money, but obviously, what Arum is talking about, is showing the Champ off around the world. They were trying to have Ramirez vs. Postol in China. Not L.A., although as you said, there's more money here! That being the case, why not Ramirez vs. Postol in Mexico?

Good points. The NBA is reaping rewards big time because they helped popularize basketball and NBA teams are now recruiting players from all over the world. But as you point out, boxing is not a team sport. Boxing matches are a one-off event. Boxers and promoters are not a league or a team that have a long life of their own. Boxing is a business that focuses on the short term, teams and leagues focus on long term results.

Clearly Ali was a true international star; and Marcos wanted that rubber match in the Philippines and was willing to pay big for that prestige. I doubt Arum's claim of wanting to showcase two great fighters overseas had any relevance.
