Comments Thread For: Arum: You Want To Show Off A Great Fighter Around The World

Bob Arum doesn't see any issue with one of his most popular boxers hitting the road. Much has been made about unbeaten, unified junior welterweight titlist Jose Ramirez heading overseas for a previously planned mandatory title defense versus Ukraine's Viktor Postol which was due to take place in Haikou, China. The show has since been indefinitely postponed due to the Wuhan coronavirus epidemic, but hasn't at all softened the Hall of Fame promoter's stance on showcasing his top fighters on a global stage.

What's ironic about Arum's statement is this: the NFL plays in Mexico, the NBA plays in Mexico, and the MLB plays in Mexico. When was the last Boxing mega-event in Mexico? How is that these sports leagues see Mexico as a viable business venture, and Boxing does not?

Jose Ramirez is a great story and he is one of many Mexicans in the sport of boxing that makes me proud to say I’m Mexican like they are. Viva Mexico! 🇲🇽

I've often wondered the same. I've just chalked it up to, they must know something we dont, seeing as how they don't even put on low scale events there either

Bu!!shyte! You take that fighter where both you and him make the most money. It’s that simple.

Another thing we all don't realize is how this affects the promoter as well. It's not just a money thing. It would be easier to have him fight in Vegas. Arum could stay home and save money. But Arum will travel halfway around the world to support his champ in China. I'm not quite his age yet but I can imagine it's not something many people would want to do at any age. I give credit to Arum for always being there around the world. I get frustrated when a fighter I like isn't being treated the way I want and blame TR or Arum for that. Sometimes unjustly but that's what fans do. I need to give Arum props also for those things I appreciate. So like always "Thanks today and damn you tomorrow"!

That's the spin. The truth he said awhile back. He can't sell tickets in the US. Maybe let Bud go over to PBC & sell some tickets & come back & be able to sell more. How bout that Mr In House fights.

It's not cuz they aren't willing to send a big fight to Mexico when they can get more gate & TV money from US fans & a US network.

The Mexican fighters making the big bucks are born in the US or come to the US.

Randomly does anyone even know the highest paid Mexican boxer who's still fighting in Mexico?

Don’t understand why Top Rank can’t go to mexico and make a fight at the Azteca stadium in Mexico City. Ramirez,Navarette and Berchelt card all defending their titles will sell crazy in Mexico.

In reality Top Rank roster is thin and all of these have to headline ESPN plus cards smh
