Comments Thread For: Hurd: Former Trainer Was Family; His Decision To Walk Away

Fighters firing trainers after losses is a common move in boxing. Jarrett Hurd had too much respect for Ernesto Rodriguez to terminate their partnership in the aftermath of his upset loss to Julian Williams. That's why Hurd was so surprised by the negative nature of a conversation he had with Rodriguez about a month after that devastating defeat.

Interesting. I wonder if Rodriguez felt that Hurd had too many enablers or "yes men" around him in camp; it's possible Rodriguez thought Hurd would lose based on the effort and activity he saw in that camp....but that's just speculation on my part. Even Koroma said that he felt Hurd lacked mental preparation in the JRock fight.

Regardless, it may be good to have some fresh ideas and Coach Kay is a local guy who has a good pedigree. I always wondered if Rodriguez was a little over his head at the championship levels of training. I will be pulling for Swift, he's one of my favorite fighters right now.

He didn’t know how his trainer really felt for 3years....and he said he wasn’t blond back then? He was indeed blond, he just didn’t know it

Not sure if Hurd got rid of the cutman but hopefully he did cuz that was just amateurish to leave a glob of Vaseline on his eye while he’s exiting the corner to fight and then left to fight with one eye!

And the amateur cutman did it for TWO STRAIGHT ROUNDS!!!

Hopefully Hurd can bounce back and we finally get him an Charlo or him and J rock again or even a Harrison rematch!

Word on the street is Hurd missed weight. Is that on Coach Kay, or Jarrett Hurd?

Ernesto is a reall ******* and douchebag...I’ve met Hurd & Nesto and I knew that partnership was not going to last...Ernesto is a real nasty person!!!...Hurd is much better off without him...Ernesto denied a 15 year old young man the opportunity to train at his gym...because he had a problem with his uncle that he was in the wrong for!!!...**** that guy!!!...

For this fight? He weighed in at 154.6lbs yesterday (less than Santana) and it was contracted at 156. Am I missing something?
