  • Comments Thread For: Teixeira vs. Castano: WBO Orders Purse Bid, Jan. 29 In Miami

Three extra weeks of negotiations merely proved to prolong the inevitable. A purse bid hearing has been ordered by the World Boxing Organization (WBO) to determine promotional rights for the 154-pound title fight between its defending champ, Patrick Teixiera and undefeated mandatory challenger Brian Castao, the Puerto Rico-based sanctioning body announced Friday morning. The session will take place January 29 in Miami, Florida, and will be open to all WBO-registered promoters providing they submit a minimum bid of $200,000.

Castaño couldn't lose this if he tried. Good news, we'll see an undisputed champ at 154 one day.....

Castano should win this, and if so...does that mean PBC will start recognizing the WBO again?

Only the WBO belt holders who are signed with PBC will be recognized

Fox has refused to recognize the WBO title even when it's held by a PBC fighter.

                    Showtime recognizes the WBO title.

PBC is attempting a full monopoly at 154 and 147 now. You can see in the WBO ratings that they're now heavily pursuing the WBO title at those weights, while ignoring it at every other weight. If they successfully secure the WBO at 154, will Fox start recognizing the WBO? I have no idea. Will be fascinating to see. It's possibly they'd just put Castano on Showtime where his belt would be recognized.
