Comments Thread For: Eleider Alvarez Looks Forward To Joe Smith Showdown

A new light heavyweight champion could be crowned in the coming months. Former world champion Eleider Alvarez could return to a world championship bout the next time he enters the ring. He already knows the identity of his opponent - Joe Smith Jr. (25-3, 20 KOs). The contest is very possible for the vacant belt of the World Boxing Organization (WBO).

Solid matchup - but since Alvarez has shown an iron chin more than once, and the same with Smith, it comes down to skills I think, and I give the slight edge to Alvarez.

Hopefully Alvarez wins. Then they could do Alvarez vs Pascal II in Canada. First fight was great and both guys have won and lost since.

Alvarez will win this one but they should keep him away from Beterbiev and Bivol to avoid a massacre

Alvarez is avoiding Beterbiev for years now, despite them being both based in Canada

Who has massacred Alvarez not saying he would win but he has size and range on both of them and is a good boxer with a solid chin. Beterbiev is strong but he can be touched Bivol is not the biggest puncher hes quick and can box really well but he was stunned by Joe Smith a few times who is not as technical as Alvarez.

That would be a good mid level crossroads fight. Hope it can get made.

Beterbiev is a monster Alvarez cant avoid him for 12 rounds and Bivol is technical enough to catch him with enough pop to end it. My 2 cents
