Comments Thread For: Fortuna vs. Campbell: WBC Orders Purse Bid, Jan. 21 in Mexico City

The extra time afforded to work out terms for a vacant title weight merely prolonged the inevitable. Javier Fortuna and Luke Campbell are due to collide for the World Boxing Council (WBC) lightweight title, with their ordered fight now heading to a purse bid hearing. WBC officials have confirmed to BoxingScene.com that the purse bid will take place January 21 at its headquarters in Mexico City, Mexico.

It will be intersting to see who comes out on top of this purse bid....the PBC umbrella or Matchroom. If the fight is scheduled for FOX/FS1 or Showtime rather then the deadzone I guess we’ll know

      Two deserving combatants.
Pick em fight with the slight edge to Campbell.

I'd give the slight edge to Fortuna. I think Campbell is stronger but Fortuna is more explosive.

Very weird that they can't come to an agreement for this fight. Hearn doesn't see the value in getting Campbell the title back to face Haney?

Something shady is going on in the WBC, they gave Nonito a shot at the WBC bantamweight title held by Nordine Oubaali after taking a L, in the WBSS finals.

This decision is another red-flag, how the hell does Luke Campbell keep getting WBC lightweight title opportunities?! Like Donaire, Campbell took a loss, for this very same belt.

Its like they don't want Devin Haney to own the WBC lightweight title: they gave Bumchenko his place vs. Luke Campbell, then they protected the fraud Bumchenko from Haney by honoring him as the 'Franchise Champion' , now they once again are handing Campbell and Matchroom what they wanted all along.

I'm going to be sick to my stomach if I hear AND THE NEW WBC LIGHTWEIGHT CHAMPION OF THE WORLD LUKE CAMPBELL!!! and all the SKY parasites crawling up Campbell's ass, selling the sad and heroic journey to a world title.

            I'm disgusted!

It is weird! I thought he would love to keep that belt in house too!

Haney fights the winner either way so it doesn't matter to Hearn.

Campbell vs Haney is a much higher profile fight for Haney. Especially since he couldn't get the Lomachenko fight and this is a common opponent with Lomachenko

Both are more proven than Haney.
