I suppose this is why the US isnt producing those elite HWs anymore.

Getting hit in the face is hard work.

When there are so many opportunities to succeed elsewhere, why not take it.

I am pretty sure Clayton Kershaw isn't worried about forgetting how to spell his name next time he signs for his credit card. He's definitely not worried about wearing diapers when he turns 50.

More money is invested into sports that people actually come out to watch. High School Football is HUGE here in America but particularly Texas and California in which some of these High Schools Millions pumped into their High School Programs by very wealthy alums

Boxing is something kids try maybe later if they're too small or not athletic or good enough to make it in other sports

Amateur Boxing Events are typically empty with a few Family Members of the participant so Kids don't think boxing is COOL because it is not as popular as the other sports among their peers

guys like joey and nick bosa...and chase young...can make 40 mil guaranteed by age 22....and theyll be avaible for a new contract by 25/26 which could be massive....and theres tons of guys like this

guys in the nba are making 12-15 mil a year to play 15-20 mins a night and come off the bench.....

compare that to the american boxing landscape where it takes years to build your name to the point where youre making 4 mil a fight....

It is a shame that the alphabet-soup organizations don't have more structured ways for bringing athletes into the sport, and supporting them. Plus, of course, splintering the championships into so many pieces can't help, either.

I wonder, too, if the history-obsessed disposition of boxing (fans) plays a part. It's a lot easier to get my 6 year old nephew excited about Fortnight than about Jack Dempsey. I guess I'm wondering about what makes the sport relevant and attractive, insead of obsolete and anachronistic.

that's the end result of america not investing enough money in boxing at amateur/olympics level.
what is $300m to the US government?

let me show you a difference
Dillian whyte was banned at amateur level boxing because of his kickboxing background. As a result, despite beating AJ in the amaturs, he fell way behind. AJ was receiving the creme de la creme in facilities and knowledge..with sports scientists, coaches etc whilst whyte was training out of his garade.
the difference is that AJ is a far more accomplished fighter.

to make it in the US from amateur levels shows you must have a lot of perseverance.

i suppose i can apply this to wilder too, but wilder did have olympic experience..but looking at those figures, obv the americans didnt have the same level of investment as the brits, so they were probably sparring out of a nuclear bomb shelter.

IMO, the best Heavyweight is American.

Also the best Heavyweight from England, Anthony Joshua, was dethroned by an American. Although that American is too lazy to consistently stay at the top and AJ took full advantage of that in the rematch.

Hadn't heard those numbers but yea when you put it like that I'm sure that's hurting US Boxing in general not just HWs. I know I'm seeing boxers putting up GoFundMe's all the time to get money for traveling to bigger tournaments. Sh^t is effed up. Personally I think anyone who wins their way into another tournament should get their travel & stay covered as part of that win.
