He was in the mix w/ Oscar a fight I thought Ike won. The 147 scene was the best in the fight game. With Trindad a aging but game Sweetpea. But after a game & close fight against Vargas we didn't see him for a long ass time. What happen to him?
Why did Ike Quartey fall off the fight scene for so long?

After the DLH fight he was damaged mentally and then losing to Vargas who was young and fresh put the nail in the coffin so to speak....It was all mental because those two fights could be damaging to anybody especially after the DLH decision. -

Quartey got frustrated by what he thought was bad scoring.
He felt got cheated to a draw in the Lopez fight.
The scoring was so bad in the De La Hoya fight, that even had Quartey won round twelve, he still wouldn't have won. (Don't believe me? Look up the scores and do the math.)
He also felt the scores in the Vargas fight were too wide, especially considering Vargas' point deduction.Comment

the oscar fight is what i think really got to him. if you heard the post-fight conf. quartey really thought (as i did also) that he won that fight. what really pissed me off and why i lost alot of respect for oscar was after the fight when merchant asked him about a rematch he said he didn't think it was that close and didn't deserve a rematch.Comment

I totally agree although I scored the fight a draw. But regardless of how you scored it, the fight deserved a rematch. But DLH is guilty just like every boxer of careful career management. Sure he took tough fights, but he did it strategically. Fighting Quartey again didn't provide him enough legacy or cash to facilitate a rematch.Originally posted by bdevilsthe oscar fight is what i think really got to him. if you heard the post-fight conf. quartey really thought (as i did also) that he won that fight. what really pissed me off and why i lost alot of respect for oscar was after the fight when merchant asked him about a rematch he said he didn't think it was that close and didn't deserve a rematch.Comment

i totally agree with your post but i think the cash would of been there because of the way the fight went and coming from a fan i would of definitely paid for it. it was one of those fights that you wished they still went 15 rds. or more.Originally posted by amagninI totally agree although I scored the fight a draw. You're reading my mind. I just posted the other day that I think one of the worst things that happened to modern boxing was the elimination of 15 round fights. There are quite a few 12 rounders I think would have gone down differently if they were 15 instead.Originally posted by bdevilsi totally agree with your post but i think the cash would of been there because of the way the fight went and coming from a fan i would of definitely paid for it. it was one of those fights that you wished they still went 15 rds. or more.Comment
