Claressa Shields calls everyone racist then acts racist on TV

Claressa Shields mocked Ivana Habazin’s accent in her post fight interview on Showtime, which is clearly racist.

This comes after she accused Habazin (and plenty of others) of being racist.

Shields mocked her opponent’s accent, which is racist. I just pointed it out.

This is the game these losers play now. Whenever a black person speaks out on what they perceive as racism, the racists play the “no, you’re racist” game. You really can’t expect much more from children with room temperature iq.

I don't really care either way but if it's no big deal then why did that whole documentary about Apu's voice from The Simpsons even exist? Yeah yeah pc something rather. Also doing the stereotypical Chinese voice or minstrel type black voice are pretty obviously racist.

Context matters. Saying mocking an accent is racist implies that every accent belongs to a unique race. That’s just completely false. Ten people of the same race may have ten completely different accents. English has multiple different accents having nothing to do with race. Similarly, sometimes My friends and I will mock our different accents to be genuinely funny, not to be disparaging.

To;dr: sometimes it could be, sometimes it’s not.
If you are going to play the racism card, you have to be savvy enough to understand the nuances.

This Claressa shields though, is doing herself a disservice by continuing to act the way she does. You can project a tough warrior without sounding like a clown. I used to be a fan, but now her shtick is just repulsive.

Shields mimicking Habazin's accent isn't the most profound form of racism and may not be racist, at all. But it certainly isn't the right thing to do. It probably would have been better if she didn't do it, especially since her brother violently assaulted Habazin's trainer. She probably should have apologized profusely and displayed some remorse in the interview. But what do we expect? Shields was born and raised in an environment of abject poverty and lack of opportunity. Therefore, she didn't go to some prep school to learn etiquette and probably just doesn't know any better.

People make fun of accents in America. My mom had a heavy accent after we moved to America and my friends always made fun of it. It was all in good fun.

With that said, Habazin is Croatian, so I hope Shields wasn't trying to do a Russian accent. That's about as accurate as using an Australian accent towards an English fighter.
