I think the complaint was that Sly went around using Wepner's name in inteviews, discussing how the Wepner fight with Ali inspired him to make Rocky. If Sly would of just kept his mouth shut, he wouldn't have had to worry.

Frazier should be the one that is pissed.
you have a point, cause Frazier used to work in meat house, as did Rocky, Frazier is from Philly, as is Rocky, etc. but, the real question is, why is there a statue of Rocky, who is fictional, in Philly, instead of Joe Frazier, a real champion. Wepner has every right to pissed as well, cause Stallone used his name and basically his life, cause, Wepner was a major in his title fight as was Rocky, Wepner fought in a boxer vs. wrestler match, as did Rocky, also Wepner had an old trainer who died during his career, as did Rocky, with Mick as his trainer, know what I mean?

I think Frazier's first trainer died as well...this is why Eddie Futch took over.

And the wrestling bit didn't happen until part 3.

So, it is a copy of both stories I guess.

Sly is a hack and he is making a mockery of Rocky I...the guy is Hollywood through and through

Chuck was a really colorful guy, tough as hell, and probably had a lot of people cheering him on vs. Ali. I remember a story where he and ali were building up the fight on a talk show or late night show and during a commercial break Ali whispers in his ear "Call me a ****** Chuck!" He wanted him to say it to build the fight but Chuck wanted no part of it for obvious reasons. It would have sold the fight but would have really destroyed Chuck's image. I'm glad he didn't fall for it, but shame on Ali for trying to use race controversy to sell a fight.
