  • Comments Thread For: Claressa Shields and The Roaring 20s

In July 1892, James Corbett bested the immovable object of his time, John L. Sullivan for the heavyweight championship. It was the dawn of a new era even if it wasn't even Sullivan's first time in gloves. What boxing would become...

I always supported shields.. So hopefully she gets this message.. she needs to have a serious talk with Mike Tyson before its too late!.. the subject of the convo should be about one of his best quotes "If u don't come into this world humble, the world will force humbleness upon you!"

Showtime is maintaining their investment in Shields and has featured multi-division badass Amanada Serrano
More like multi-division ducker... Moves in weight to avoid difficult fights and to swoop up vacant belts so she can be a "7 division champion". First was MMA or now gonna have a baby instead of fighting Taylor. Never fought Mariana Juarez or Daniela Romina Bermudez at bantamweight, never fought Marcela Acuna at super bantam, or Delfine Persoon at super feather, and so on and so on.....

I haven't seen that she's involved with drugs, alcohol, or gangsters (outside of her family, maybe, lol). I've heard nothing about her partying or getting arrested or in fights outside of the boxing arena. No gun shxt either.

People just got a problem with a sista that promotes her fights with her mouth the same way Floyd, Tyson Fury, or Muhammad Ali did.

Nah best I can tell Claressa ain't really done anything materially wrong - mostly it's just guilt by association, but she mgiht wanna be a bit more careful with her words. Supporting family's one thing but openly expressing approval for her uncle who sucker punched Uzcategui lost her fans, and someone should have reined her in before her tirade about Habazin being a racist. Shields either didn't read the text of Habazin's statement or misinterpreted it.

True... I will say this, she handled that situation wrong, as far as her words.

But she was already guilty b4 she said one word.

Seems to be a lot of folk quick to condemn her for her brothers actions. I can't say I'm a particular fan but I don't hold Claressa to blame for that. Might want to take some advice on thinking before she speaks, but that goes for half the young fighters out there.
