Comments Thread For: Mikey Garcia: Not The Loss But How You Come Back That People Remember

Mikey Garcia knew all of the risks heading into a pound-for-pound showdown with Errol Spence, but always remained confident that his name will always be spoken with a measure of respect regardless of the outcome. It's not to say that he's ever been okay with suffering the first loss of his career and in lopsided fashion in a 12-round shutout to Spence last March at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. In fact, he is eager enough to return to the same setting for his next fight-a return to welterweight and in the greater Dallas area as he faces former two-division titlist Jessie Vargas (29-2-2, 11KOs) on February 29 at Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas.

Mikey looked like a fool against Spence. I wouldn’t be surprised if he was beaten by Jesse Vargas.

All I heard from Team Garcia was that Spence did no damage to Mikey but yet he took off a basically a whole year off.

      Not buying it

The way you lost is what people will remember. When I think about Mikey Garcia, it's him raising his fist in celebration after every round against Spence even though he was clearly losing. He talked big and didn't deliver.

I certainly remember Pacquiao laying face down on the canvas from a Marquez right hand. I have no idea who he fought in the fight immediately after that.

I remember Carl Froch getting undressed by a one handed Andre Ward. No clue who fought Froch next.

Also don’t remember who Canelo fought right after Floyd.

Not saying I couldn’t look it up, but the point is, yes, the people do remember losses. Especially ones where it looks like you’re not even trying to win anymore. Good luck Mikey

The biggest joke is how Spence got a pass for taking this fight from the same people who condemned Golovkin for fighting Brook. Spence is a natural light middle and Garcia is a fat lightweight. But lets pretend it makes Spence Tommy Hearns.

The difference between Pacquiao and Canelo, is we remember them more for the people they beat, than who they loss to. Mikey's best wins (Juanma and Salido) were back in 2013! That awesome KO of Zlaticanin was 3 years ago! So if he wants a legacy like Manny and Canelo, he going to need a few more signature wins over the likes of Prograis, Haney, DSG, or Pacquiao! Good Luck Mikey!
