By Thomas Hauser - Bill King is a senior writer for Sports Business Journal and has honed his journalistic skills over the course of three decades. He's more than able to ferret out the details of a story. So . . . What does King have to say about the economics of DAZN's business model in the United States? A lot of us was throwing that 3 mil number around when that first started. I have no idea why they'd think they could get 3.5 million from boxing when the highest watched premium boxing match was around 2.5 mil Canelo vs Kirkland on regular HBO and the highest watched on ESPN was around 3 million for Pacquiao vs Horn and a little above 3 mil for Thurman vs Porter and Garcia. Why would they think the boxing audience is big enough to get 3.5 mil people to pay $9.99 a month?

One industry source says that an early DAZN financial model anticipated that the streaming service could have as many as 3.5 million subscribers in the United States by the end of 2019. Another well-placed source says that DAZN now has roughly eight million subscribers worldwide and approximately 800,000 of these are in the United States.
I been said this. But I didn't know it went from half a billion up one billion.

Appearing with Perform Group CEO Simon Denyer and John Skipper in New York on May 18, 2018, to announce the launch of DAZN in America, Eddie Hearn declared, "We’ve got a team of people behind us who have a bottomless pit of money who will back us to the heavens.”

That pit no longer seems bottomless. Midway through 2019, there was industry talk that Len Blavatnik was unwilling to put any more of his own money into DAZN. On October 24, Bloomberg.com reported that Goldman Sachs was trying to raise $500 million in private investment on DAZN's behalf. In November, the ante was upped to one billion dollars.
    Lol wut?!?!?

As John Skipper acknowledged in an October 7, 2019, interview with SportsPro, "We’re now engaged with the consumer who, as you know, may or may not understand exactly what kind of broadband connection they have, may not understand that they’re getting buffering because too many people in their neighborhood are overtaxing the last hundred feet of connection

It's ok. Nothing new. Stuff I talked about months and years ago and using unconfirmed numbers that were reported by one outlet. But the real numbers will be out in a couple of months. From DAZN themselves.

Yeah they made the same mistake PBC made when they was hemorrhaging that 600mil hedge fund

PBC has over 120 million a year guaranteed in domestic broadcast rights, as well as a near monopoly on PPV now.

Even if they lost 600 million (they didn't), they still ended up with a model that will make tons of money for many years to come.

What DAZN have to show for their losses?

Oh yeah, if you knew all this, why didn't you write the article and have boxingscene pay you?

We tried, Motor City wanted triple of what Hauser was charging, plus rematch clause to do a Part 3.

DAZN was trying to fish external investors across the board for the BT rights for the Champions League. In Nov. BT flexed them with the 1.2 Billion bid. Blavatnik wasn’t up for it.

That would’ve gained some serious revenue for DAZN.

With footsy being attained and online sports betting available, DAZN will continue improve.

But more importantly I was interested in the Vaseline adverts. This would be a genius idea for the LDBC whenever they talk about Hearn, DAZN, Haymon, PBC.
