I don’t think anyone is rooting for the promoter plans. I think if you enjoy watching a particular boxer you will watch regardless of the matchup.
Frankly, a lot of the newer fans don’t want to see their favorite fighters compete as much as they want to see them win. The networks realized this and you see it with how they make fights for the top guys.
If a boxer gets good ratings they will give him a 3 fight deal. The 1st 2 fights will be easy wins and then the 3rd fight will be the big one. If a guy. Gets a 5 or 6 fight deal you know most of those fights will be showcase type fights.
Boxing, like every sport, has to adapt to what young fans want.
