Comments Thread For: Sullivan Barrera a Free Agent, Wants Marcus Browne Clash

Sullivan Barrera is 100% healthy and ready to return to the ring. The former Cuban amateur standout has fought through a torn labrum and rotator cuff the past few years but is now fully healed after having surgery over the summer and is looking to make a final run in the light heavyweight division.

      Re

He's a name to put on Browne's resume, to get that rematch with Pascal, or go for Bivol and Beterbiev.

Based on his last fight, he looked quite shot to me.

Not sure what this "final run" will entail.

But then again this is boxing.

If shot Gamboa can be in a title fight, why not Barrerra.

Rather see Barrerra retire. Bivol took everything he had left.

The winner should face Joshua Buatsi.

These guys all need the money. Sad that they have to risk their health to get it. That said, I think Barrera has more left in the tank than Yuri (assuming his shoulder is 100%). Gamboa is burnt to a crisp.

Thats the thing with the Cuban fighters, by the time they get here they've already past their best fighting years. They give their primes to Castro for free.

Have you heard anything about JC La Cruz defecting? He could debut at 168 and immediately do damage.

I have not. La Cruz is a very talented guy, but I’m not sure his style would go over well in the pros. He’s very slick, maybe too slick. Very points oriented style. The kid I wanted to see most in the States was Ramirez. I was very happy when he defected, but his career hasn’t gotten off to a very good start. And you’re right, many of these athletes spend too many quality years in the communist system.
