Keith Thurman, Deontay Wilder, Adrien Broner, the Charlo brothers, Demetrius Andrade, Terence Crawford, Errol Spence, Mikey Garcia, Danny Garcia....a decade where these guys should have taken the mantle from the likes of Pacquiao, Mayweather, Hopkins, Wlad, Cotto and co and yet each of these guys failed to deliver to differing levels and issues. One problem sticks out -
Each one of these guys came to the party, Wilder won a heavyweight strap, Danny Garcia beat Khan at the peak of his financial powers, Spence had his night against Brook and so on, yet none of them built on that career building start. Instead they fought less and less meaningful bouts, took losses and grew distant from the sport.
What's remarkable is that almost all these guys are American, used to being the home of the superstar boxer but none of them have any mainstream recognition, even though they could have.
Imagine what a Spence v Thurman fight would have done ? Or if Wilder had chased wlad or gone at AJ? What if the 154 pounders all under the same umbrella had fought each other?
A sad end to the decade, where the power is clearly now in Europe.
