He currently sits at #2 in the WBA rankings at 135 and Davis is #1. If Davis is overweight and Gamboa refuses the fight, he could get elevated to mandatory by doing absolutely nothing. Lomachenko fought a WBA mandatory in April of 2019. After he fights Lopez, he’ll have to make a WBO mandatory defense (likely against Lee Selby) and then the WBA would be the next to call a mandatory.
Even if the WBA forces a final eliminator anyway, it would be against Ryan Garcia (Robert Easter is #3 but has moved up in weight and Garcia is #4). I’m not even sure GBP takes that fight for Garcia.
