  • Comments Thread For: Derrick James: Errol Spence 'Just Like He Was' In The Gym

ONTARIO, California Derrick James hasn't seen anything happen in his gym since Errol Spence Jr. returned to it earlier this month that makes James think Spence isn't the same elite fighter he was before his car accident.

Only a fool would expect James to say Spence stutters, is drooling saliva and is slow as molasses. He surely wants to get paid and will encourage his fighter and tell his fighter he is still good. I watched the interview Spence did, he was slower than Evander Holyfield and often sounded like Mayweather Senior. It’s hogwash to tell people Spence is still the same. I wish Spence the best, I hope he recovers and learns drink driving is a ****** thing to do and best of all watch him in good fights.

I'd wait until the scar tissue heals before any sparring. He should be in good shape by the time he fights in May or June.

This guy is the luckiest guy on earth. Thrown out of a car and back in the gym 6 months later? wow God must have been looking out for him.

Get Well Champ! Don't do anything else ******, inside or outside the ring! Haters gonna hate! Can't rush back to prove anything to them, because they're still gonna hate anyway! ONE LOVE!

To be fair, I also saw it and well, Spence just talks like that. Very relaxed and monotone. Seemed normal.

I'd still be more cautious with him in regards to contact/sparring. Give it some more time then start him off with some feather weight sparring partners or something.

The man had his teeth knocked out and his eye was discolored. He had to have been concussed something awful for all of that to happen.

In the end I'm also hoping for a full recovery and a lesson learned. If he can resume his career without being put at anymore risk than he was prior, even better.

A entire year of road work with no sparring or fighting. Get the blood flow and oxygen running properly and come back in 2021. 🥊

Never know until he gets hit.. i know this guy who walked away from what seemed to be a minor traffic accident. He walked away fine then Suffered a sudden death from head trauma.

Spence may look ok but we need to see him react to punches.
