Neither of those guys stand a chance and watching Alvarez beat them will be boring. When you only fight twice a year they better be good fights. Canelo isn't delivering that. There are at least 10 guys that would be a more interesting fight than Smith or BJS, and team Canelo knows it. This is the Mayweather school of risk-averse cherry-picking at work.
