Comments Thread For: Davis' Trainer: Gamboa 'A Great Step Up' For Gervonta

Gervonta Davis' overall level of competition has drawn criticism since the unbeaten Baltimore native dominated Jose Pedraza to win the IBF 130-pound title nearly three years ago. Yuriorkis Gamboa will turn 38 before he faces Davis next month, but Davis' trainer still considers the skillful former three-division champion a true test for the powerful southpaw. The 25-year-old Davis (22-0, 21 KOs) and Gamboa (30-2, 18 KOs) will meet in a 12-round WBA lightweight title fight Showtime will televise December 28 from State Farm Arena in Atlanta.

Yeah, Mr. Ford, we expected you to say that. This fight should've been Davis vs. Fortuna @ 135! What's really amazing is how Gamboa got ranked #2 in the WBA Lightweight (135) division! Was beating Roman Martinez that impressive?

Where's Lorenzo "Truck" Simpson? Let's go! No less than 3 fights in 2020!

gamboa is a good opponent...decent enough and his name is known in the boxing world and even to some "casuals"

if loma and tank both win out in 2020 and tank doesn't fight loma in 2021 I will call him a ducker...till then tank is free to be a 25 year old ...because there aren't many in the game who are doing as well as he is by that age...only canelo

Pathetic. Gamboa is shot AF. Looks like he has neurological damage. This would have been a great fight a while back but it's ****** to pretend that today's Gamboa is a good fight for a guy like Davis. To believe that you'd have to believe Davis is garbage.

is there a certain age where you have to start having a real career? until then you can just waste everyones time and suck up all the money for easy fights? is this age 26? 27? kinda seems arbitrary . shouldnt you just fight good fighters when you headline major cards? thats usually how it works but now tank gets a special "im young doe" waiver to fight all these bums?

hes free to be a 25 year old everyone! dont pay attention to his horrible opponents he's only 25! hes making a lot of money therefore its ok guys!

he can do whatever he wants

if he and loma win out next year and tank ducks him in 2021 ill call him a duck..im man enough to say it now and ill stick by it.....till then hes got a pass to do what he wants....gamboa is a decent enough fight...

“Great step up.” Lol Well, I guess these guys have to play up the opponent to try and create some sort of interest in a weak encounter. As most of us know, Gamboa’s been done for a while. Davis should have no trouble at all.

Maybe Floyd is actually trying to ruin Tank with all these crappy fights or at least stunt his career.
