You can’t use the phrase “against all odds” to describe something that the odds said would likely happen.

The majority of people did not pick Ruiz to win the rematch. If that was the case, Ruiz would have been favored. The odds are designed to get equal action on both sides. The oddsmakers has to make Ruiz an underdog to attract Ruiz bettors.

Former heavyweight champions are 4-5-2 when fighting immediate rematches to regain their titles. That isn’t against all odds, it’s basically 50-50.

I'm guessing the educational system in the US doesn't teach the distinction between figurative and literal languages, lol.

Against all odds is a figurative language and you can't translate it literally. Betting odds are what what odds are.

The overwhelming majority of people pick Ruiz to win the immediately rematch. And when you use the precedent in HW boxing, prior to that, HW boxers don't usually win immediate rematches when they're KO'ed in the first fight. So the odds (not betting odds, lol) were stacked against AJ.
