Comments Thread For: Loma 'Not Impressed' With Lopez, 'Just A Couple Of Rounds'

NEW YORK Vasiliy Lomachenko might've been the least impressed person inside Madison Square Garden on Saturday night. The three-division champion commended Teofimo Lopez for winning a lightweight world title. Lomachenko also acknowledged Lopez's power, which was on full display during his second-round stoppage of Richard Commey.

Lomanchenko is undoubtedly Top 3 P4P right now and his opinion matters in the sport of boxing. I would have to disagree with him about Lopez's performance on Saturday night. The fight couldn't have gone better for him. He showed that he deserved the Loma fight and I see the fight as an 7-3 in favor of Loma.

Why you all want to see 22 years old kid who has 15 fights and is pro 3 years FIGHT against p4p top 3 guy who is in Prime has more than 400 amateur fights has double pro experience and fookin is a beast. I just dont understand... let the Young man develope more get some title defenses and then he can go fight Lomachenko.

Arum coaching Lopez and Loma on what to say. He doesn't want them to fight.

You're not reading between the lines. Don't take Loma's comments at face value. He is probably fighting him next. He's not going to give Lopez all kinds of accolades and say he's the next big thing. He wants to downplay his accomplishments in advance of their matchup/unification bout. I don't think Loma was being totally honest. I'm sure he was impressed but he doesn't want to admit Lopez is a legitimate threat. Personally, I'm looking forward to the fight regardless of what anyone thinks.

Who else is there for Loma to fight? He won't fight Haney. If he doesn't fight Haney or Lopez at 135, what does he do, drop down to 130 and fight Berchelt?

He's been developing. He just won a world title! Why wait? Furthermore, Lopez Sr. has backed his son into a corner by trashing Loma 24/7 and claiming Teofimo is going to demolish him. You need to back up that talk, especially after you just won a world title.

Really? I call BS on that. They are both promoted by Top Rank and Arum stands to make major money if they fight. This is a huge unification bout that everybody wants to see.

I can only speak for the impression I took from Lomachenko's interview, but the way I understood it was that he was saying he couldn't really take much from Teo's performance because the fight didn't go on long enough for him to get a proper look at his form and ablities, that he was unable to form any accurate impression, not that he was being dismissive of Lopez's performance as the article seems to be suggesting.

loma has lost some of his game due to aging. plus lopez will be a lot bigger and stronger than he is. maybe a 50/50 fight but i see a well focused lopez getting the KO.
