Give the slack to the sanctioning body. Not sure why fighters get slack from internet fans for fighting mandatories. They train and fight their whole life and careers to finally achieve winning titles. They want to hold onto them. A sanctioning body tells them they have rules to fight a mandatory or else they lose that title they worked so hard for and deserve. So they fight their mandatory until a bigger fight is available. Meanwhile keyboard warriors bash them and call them scared to fight the best.
Crawford's opponent tonight obviously wasn't on his level. However, he showed he wasn't a "scrub". He was an undefeated top challenger who became a mandatory.
Great fighters can go to that Super Saiyan 1, 2, 3 level. Just because they lose some rounds in base form, it's being able to go to that next level that makes them great. In boxing you're going to get hit. Your opponent is trained to take your head off.
If you own a belt organization, you HAVE to establish rules. Not everyone will like them. Now don't get me wrong, I don't like all the sanctioning bodies and the whole multi-promotor structure. However, I have no problem with their being mandatories. The sanctioning bodies have to navigate around the promotor structure in boxing too.
My bigger issue is with interim, Diamond, in-recess, Super, etc champions. My issue isn't with the fighters just trying to hold onto their title belt.
