If you don't recognize Baldomir as the one true champ, then it's obvious I'm not the one caught up on belts.

When Sugar Ray Leonard retired in 1982, he was the one and only Welterweight Champion having beaten Thomas Hearns.

Donald Curry then faced off against Jung Suk Hwang for the vacant WBA belt (the IBF added recognition of Curry later after he beat Marlon Starling)and Milton McCrory faced Collin Jones twice (first was a draw) to determine who the WBC titlist was.....but Curry then stopped McCrory in round 2 in 1985 to give us the first undisputed and lineal world welterweight champion since Leonard retired.

    Got that?

Now....Curry lost to Lloyd Honeyghan, who lost to Marlon Starling, who lost to Maurice Blocker, who lost to Simon Brown, who lost to Buddy McGirt, who lost to Pernell Whitaker, who lost to Oscar De La Hoya, who lost to Sugar Shane Mosley, who lost to Vernon Forrest, who lost to Ricardo Mayorga, who lost to Cory Spinks, who lost to Zab Judah, who lost to....you guessed it; Carlos Baldomir, making Carlos the ONE AND ONLY WORLD WELTERWEIGHT CHAMPION.

It doestn' get any simpler than that. One guy beats the titleholder and, ergo, he is the new titleholder. A five year old can understand it.

      If not belts, then what??
like i said belts don't make you a champion, belts don't make you the best. In the past, yes it did..but now it doesn't. Barrera, Morales and Pacquiao don't have belts, but no one will deny that they're the best at 130..with all the politics about who can and who can't get a title shot, the value of belts are diminished.

The ONLY way you can become the World Champion is to BEAT the world champion.

It doesn't matter if a bunch of writers or fans THINK you're the best....or even if YOU BEAT EVERYBODY ELSE BUT THE CHAMP....you are NOT the champ....until YOU BEAT THE CHAMP.

          ..nuff said.

good, i'm completely okay with this fight.. Baldomir's made a prescence known in that division now with wins over Judah and Gatti, even though i'm not giving him a chance, it's better than *gulp*, a Cory Spinks fight

still, i'll wait on official word

It doesn't matter what a bunch of rich sanctioning bodies say or rich business men say. It's about the fights and the fighters. if title belts legitimize fighters for you then so be it. I don't care what the WBC, WBA, or IBF say. but obviously you do.

Belts have nothing to do with it...it's the man, got it?.....THE MAN...and Carlos beat the man who beat the man who beat THE MAN.

Please tell me you get that.

look its really simple, consider this, the fastest man in the world (100 meter dash record holder ) is not necesarily the world champion, and the world champion is not necesarily the fastest man in the world. To be the best you dont have to be the champion, and to be the champion you dont have to be the best. If you beat the champion in a championship fight then you are the champion.
