I have been watching Ruiz for a long time and he has never had that type of top-notch conditioning in his career. I’m sure AJ wanted to knock him out late but when he saw that the guy didn’t gas out despite chasing for 8 rds - he decided to keep it simple till the end.
Even when Ruiz was around 260ish lbs, he used to gas out quite quick and coast in mid rounds until championship rds, as evident in his Parker fight. He also gassed out in the 4th rd against AJ in New York. However, somehow, he put on 15 extra lbs and didn’t looked gassed one bit despite chasing for 12rds. How did that happen?
Forget all the excuses - the guy is just sore loser with chubby-nice demeanour. He just believed his own hype and thought AJ couldn’t box and his granite chin would save him from AJ’s power. So he came in bigger for power but with the best conditioning of his career. He was supremely prepared for the fight.
I still don’t know how people think a guy who won a silver medal at the world championship and a gold medal at Olympics can’t box. LMAO. And the era which he did it had some of the best super heavyweight amateur talents in history. That pedigree is no joke.
