Comparing him to Ali would be more appropriate. They are both HWs at least with limited skills as all HWs have in comparison to the same caliber of smaller boxer. Granted AJ doesn't have the jab, speed or chin of Ali so that doesn't exactly land well either.

Ruiz in the first fight was a very high risk, low reward opponent...so I agree that the comparison's to Floyd and his later career are not appropriate in this case.

what is floyd's mentality? Floyd moved less and less the older he got, he used his "philly shell" most of the time....I mean he's supposed to be "the runner" but yet he threw and landed more punches on pacquiao. When you watch floyds fights he's always in front of the opponent waiting to counter, he had speed his opponents couldn't deal with and he wasn't scared to trade, look at when shane rocked him in the second or third round. He still didn't run, he stood in front of mosley and out boxed him trough out the fight.

Floyd landed lots of power shots in both Maidana fights, but Floyd doesn't have power at 36/37 years of age. So Maidana walked through it. Nearly ALL of the clean work was done by Floyd and Maidana looked ordinary in 2nd fight when he wasnt allowed to low blow, hold and hit, rabbit punch, and tackle Floyd lol

AJ landed very few power punches. Nearly everything he landed was a jab. AJ AVOIDED exchanges with movement.

Floyd moved to reset, but used his patented shoulder roll as he often does and counter-puncher well. Floyd just couldnt hurt Maidana and Maidana did not respect the counter shots.

Maidana rematch was literally exactly the same as this fight. Without the hurtful punches.
