    Ice's rare prediction........

Boxing is a game where anything can happen and it is often the unexpected that actually does and for that reason I usually don't even take the time to try and predict fights...but for this fight I decided to take a stab at an analytical prediction..... SAO Here you have it... This fight kind of reminds me of a fight between two stars that met up after their primes were over with but seeing as how they are maybe still on the same level in comparison to each other, as a result, it could still end up being just as entertaining as it may have been had they met up four or five years ago. Kind of like when Leonard and Hearns finally rematched in 1989 and even though they were both way past their primes it was still a very entertaining fight that produced some classic moments.

Ike probably is a little too patient in there sometimes, waiting to land that jab and the perfect follow up right hand, and if he waits too long against a taller, sharper guy like Vernon it could definitely cause him big problems. Punch for punch Ike might have the heavier, stronger jab but Vernon has a good jab himself and he also has that good range and distance to set up the long, strong right hand with.

It's a tough fight to call because both guys have been out of the mainstream eye for such a long time but if both of them are well prepared and in good condition, if they haven't lost a great deal, then I think their advanced ages might actually help it to be an even more competitive and interesting fight. I would have to think that the left jab is going to be the big key in the fight and, like I said, Ike probably has the better overall jab but I think Vernon's willingness to throw those longer, more accurate right hands at a busier pace off of hi s own jab will be the deciding factor. I wouldn't bet, I never do, but if I did I would put my last five dollars on Vernon to win a decision.

O yea, also, the thing about me is that I am almost always WRONG when I pick fights LOL I remember I picked Duran to beat Davey Moore in 83 and I picked Jones to decision Toney in 1994. Other than that... not so accurate

Hey Ice, what were most people's thoughts about that fight before it happened?

What was the general concensus around those you rolled with at the time?

        Cheers

I think the average group was split on who would win that fight. The night before the fight in Vegas RJ's manager asked me who would win and why and I told him... "Roy and James are both great fighters but Roy will win because the things that makes James great... will never come into play in this fight."

i think forrest had better show a lot more movement than his last bout. He was a stationary target it seemed to me at times against Garcia and even a older Ike can take care of business if that was the case. Im probably wrong on this but im taking Ike by KO

Vernon has the style to beat most fighters out there. He's tall, lanky, good jab and a big long right hand. He would give anyone fits. He could have beat Mayorga had he just stuck to his game plan and boxed. He is deceptively dirty as well, he likes to clutch, grab and lead with his head. He's an underrated talent.

I'm picking Forrest UD, maybe late KO if age and battles have indeed caught up with Ike.

Hey Ice do you think that the competition factor will play a part? Since Forrest came back he's looked ok against competition that's really not on his level. Quartey jumped head first into fights with Verno Philips & Bojorquez & has shown flashes of his old self. What do you think?
