I’m a fan of the sport but a true boxing fan of the sport learns to evolve with the sport! If I’m going to be one of these close minded people who just say “fck the politics, I want to see the best fight the best!” I might as well pick another sport to watch because truth be told Politics run the sport and if you don’t do your research to see “who’s really ducking who” then your just a fanboy supporting a particular boxer who’s not even doing what’s in his power to please the fans. Canelo won the WBC MW title off Cotto at the end of '15, man. Golovkin became mando to that title by beating Rubio in Oct 2014 and remained interim titlist til Canelo vactated in May 2016.

Real fans know the reason for the creation of the franchise belt. When ggg was canelos mandatory a few yrs back, the wbc tried to enforce it and Canelo dropped their belt and threw a fit that lasted about a yr and a half. Wbc tried to win canelos love back with their other made up Mayan belts but he spit on it.

The wbc was so scared of pissing Canelo off again once he became wbc mw champion again, they got creative and created the franchise belt so that he wouldn't have to face any mandatory because they knew that facing Charlo wasn't in his plans. This avoids them having to strip Canelo for not facing a mandatory, keeps him happy and essentially prevents mandatories from earning the fights that they really want, but instead gifts them a title.
