the mayorga that ko'd 6 heads and forrest, gives any ww problems. he was a big ww, could punch, had a great chin and was hungry. he fell off hard after a bit of success.

Huge fan, the week before Carlos Fanoso Hernandez became the first Salvadoran world champion, Mayorga upset Vernon Forrest.

He decapitated six heads Lewis and if he could maintain the weight he would’ve beasted most fighters at 147.

He was overconfident against Cory Spinks and had his ass handed to him by Trinidad and that was his downfall. He moved up to 160 and stood in front of Tito. That ruined him as a world class fighter. Trinidad ruined Vargas, Joppy, David Reid so that’s not something to be ashamed of but that fight shouldve never happened.

It’s a shame Mayorga became what he became by not taking care of his money or health but he was a damn good welter and would’ve given anybody from Hoya to Sugar Ray Robinson all they could handle at the weight off strength, chin and determination.

I was a fan and it sucks how there are no characters like Mayorga today. We got these boring ass dudes like Spence and lames like Wilder. Where are the personalities?

Mayorga was fascinating during his peak.
One of the gayest fight ive seen was the Spinks fight and i always wondered what would have happened to his career had he not got done dirty in that bout.

Me and a brother went to a small Telemundo card in a small Indian casino in Miami by the Everglades in 2006. We saw a 19 year unknown fighter by the name of Saul “Canelo” Alvarez live destroy some Colombian fighter in 2 rounds, after the fight we went to go smoke some cigarettes and we met Mayorga.

He was by himself and we talked to him about his fight with Tito Trinidad at the Garden. He told me it was the best fight atmosphere he fought in and that his adrenaline was at a million thus he let Tito set off 4 left hooks to his exposed chin hahaha. He smoked half of my brothers Newport’s in about 20 minutes of talking, it was pretty cool.
