Next Saturday night, both will look more or less the same as the first fight. There have been way too many stories devoted to “Ruiz cutting weight” and “Joshua cutting mass”. We should find out if Joshua has chin and heart. That will be the major factor.
I doubt it. Joshua should have much more stamina now that he has she'd off the excess muscle. Honestly he should have done this long ago, or rather, he should have never bulked up to that extent in the first place.
It will probably be the same situation as Ortiz where they said he lost a lot of weight but on the scales for the weigh in he was only about 6 lbs lighter than the first fight.

Good post. I agree neither will be considerably lighter than the first fight. In ring weights should be mandatory, part of it is fan service, but it would also give an accuracy to when two people are actually squaring off. The morning after sum heavy drinking I was 195.5lbs, after eleven hours of hydrating, eating, and on a full belly I was 207.5lbs. We love to discuss/debate weight because it’s something tangible. Heavyweights also love to pretend extra weight is based on leaning or getting leaned on by somebody. This is just really an old boxing joke/myth. As u gain muscle u often drop fat as muscles burn calories. If Ruiz is lighter hopefully that means he’s in better physical shape all around. He’s known for his fast hands, not taking a running haymaker. Course everyone has their own balance that they feel is their best. Wilder fluctuates more in his weight it seems like and nobody makes a big of it. Where does his lack of weight factor in if it’s such a big deal? Is “leaning” even a factor in his fights? Weight is overrated.
Chris Arreola's punch resistance and power was clearly diminished once he cut weight.
I think Areolla had the weight loss surgery. He lost muscle mass and had too much sagging skin. Typical look of those who had the surgery. Sad how these guys are given the ablity yet they blow it by not training and eating garbage.

I come from a bodybuilding background, still I don’t see AJ as that “Bulked Up”. He’s lean and muscular, with an aesthetic looking physique. But he’s not heavier than Lennox Lewis who id say has a great boxing physique. No way AJ has a wider back than Lewis. Tyson was 220lbs @5’10” to put things in perspective. My uncle is 6’4 240lb and played World Cup rugby and ran 5minute miles. I don’t think AJ is all “bulked up” like hes making a conscious effort to weigh in the 240s. I think that’s just who he is. I have no problem with people thinking AJ coming in lighter might be good for him. Still him coming in the 230s would be fighting his homeostasis more than the 240s in my opinion.
Joshua said it was a punch from the gods or something like that... Does the fight have a different outcome if that shot Joshua took on the side of the head didn't screw up his equilibrium?
Sure, Ruiz can take a shot. He's got quick hands. He's got heart. He's got a lot of amateur experience. He's got confidence, and the momentum going into the rematch. Why is he the underdog in a rematch that left Joshua quitting in the first fight and knocked down 4 times?
Would Joshua have defeated Ruiz if he did not take a punch that impaired his equilibrium?
In my opinion, Joshua had a ring IQ that night of about -50. He took Ruiz likely. Fought a short opponent with a huge less reach advantage by fighting him on the inside. How ****** was that? Well, we saw the outcome.
Even with the left hook that dropped Ruiz, it wasn't that damaging. Ruiz was put down, but let's not kid ourselves here... Andy was not hurt at all. Even when he got back up, he took Joshua's best right on the facr and ate that shot and hung in there. Will losing 8 pounds make Andy weaker? If Andy was 8 pounds lighter, would he have ate that shot?
Great fighters lose to lesser opponents for whatever reason. It happens. Styles make fights. Joshua fights robotically and can't fight on the outside throwing jabs like Ali. Joshua is too muscular and can't replace oxygen quick enough which tires him out. Ruiz fights on the inside and unless Joshua can keep him on the outside i see thus being an advantage for Ruiz.

AJ consciously put on that bulk since he turned pro. There is a massive difference between what he looked like recently and what he looked like when he turned pro.
If you can't even admit the obvious than your credibility just sailed out the window.
Lenox Lewis ain't got nothing on Joshua, what kind of comparison is that? Lennox was not as bulk or as ripped as Joshua.
Lean and muscular? That's what he is NOW, but before he was bulk and muscular. Wilder is lean and muscular too, as is AJ NOW, before he was way too bulk.
I like the fact that Ruiz openly says 'I'm the same weight as the first fight' and that his punch 'Was from the Gods'. He's been pretty humble about things. He's been acting like a proper Champion so regardless of the result next weekend, Ruiz has been good for boxing.
In terms of his decision to slim down, really, his genetics are there and his fast hands are all about his short levers. You are never going to take that away from him unless you cut his arms off so as much as I respect Mike Tyson, Ruiz's best attribute is physiologically permanent
BJ is gonna run, on the back foot and try to use his height and reach, he wants to walk Andy onto something, every time Andy gets inside he will throw the uppercut guaranteed. But I doubt it will work, at some point in the fight Andy will land and put BJ down, will he survive, I don't know as his problem is punch resistance, Andy can take a shot BJ carnt simple.
