  • Haters and Nuthuggers, no Hobbittes

Tracylee wrote in a different thread:

"I'll never understand why people are automatically labeled "haters" if they thought a particular fighter just didnt look all that impressive in a fight and posts that opinion; but I even more dont understand why were labeled "nughugger" for appreciating the talent displayed in the ring during a fight! As a fan of boxing, naturally I prefer to see a fight that impresses me in some fashion, and then I might want to post about it. Doing that does not make me a nuthugger. That is a gross word; a sterotype that just doesnt seem accurate when it comes to boxing fan's appreciating a good fighter??

How much praise is "ok" for a fan; and when does it cross the line into "nuthugging" anyway. And who get's to decide such a thing anyway?? It's just ****** really."

This is an interesting point that needs to be discussed in a separate thread.

My take on it is that this is just a new lingo, which Tracy defined precisely:

"Hater" is a poster that thinks that a particular fighter sucks.

    "Nuthugger" is a talent-appreciating poster.

It seems sad that there is nothing negative about it anymore, having heard it so many times now.

The funny thing is that this classification misses other types of posters.

Haters and Nuthuggers, but not Hobbittes.

A person who doesn't have anything of substance to back up their opinion will quickly call someone who disagrees with them a "Hater."

It's terrible cliche. It's the equivalent of calling a woman that word that rhymes with witch; it requires no imagination and shows how limited the name-caller's intelligence and vocabulary is.

A person who idolizes a certain individual to the point that cognitive dissonance occurs whenever a contrary opinion is brought up can accurately be described as a Nut-Hugger.

      Hope this helps.

See my Haters thread if you want to see a good example of Nuthuggers. The Wlad fans in there are rediculous.

You shouldn't be called a hater just for hating a fighter. You should be labled a hater when that hate clouds your objectivity and judgement.

I'm not a big fan of those terms either.

I think a more appropriate definition would be:

Hater One who has an abnormal hatred for a particular fighter for no rational reason. One who "hates" a fighter will never acknowledge the skills and talents no matter how outstanding.

                  Nutthugger
One who has an unnatural love for a fighter regardless of how poorly they preform. A nutthugger will never see any flaws in their favorite fighter, regardless of how glarring they may be.
