    Anybody remember Odlanier Solis?

Thinking about Ortiz and Cuban boxing, remembered this guy. I believe he is retired, but at one point was praised as the future of HW boxing. Crazy to think he is younger than Ortiz. It's been ages since he fought Vitali and people were saying he would beat Vitali.

He was by far and away the most successful and skilled Cuban HW. However look at his physique in the amateurs, had that Solis shown up to our HW division now...well it would have been interesting

Massive underachiever in the pro ranks. Don't think he had the discipline once he got out of Cuba.

I bet on him to beat vitali at the time, that worked out well for me

I remember him being pretty heavily hyped up, and I also remember the splattering that Vitali gave him. His career after that was pretty much a sad joke and even his own promoters were dunking on him for being ill-disciplined.

Splattering? The guy tore a muscle in his leg.

Did you actually watch the fight? Solis was throwing a few nice overhands in the brief event that was the fight. He then tore a muscle in his knee and had to pull out

Shame he didn't have a discipline. Makes me think he was much more talented than Ortiz. I cannot understand how somebody can be well disciplined in amateurs, fighting on pride alone, and once it's a time to make some money, you can't be bothered.

Those Cuban guys as pros often fall shorter than expectations. Solis wasnt the first and wont be the last.

Hell I think Luis Ortiz is the most accomplished HW Cuban amateur in the pro ranks at this point thats how low the bar still is.
