I Like Wilder, But The Time Is Coming That Someone Will Withstand His Punch

Wilder seems to exclusively rely on his right hand, therefore abandoning a lot of boxing which forces him to giveaway rounds. Sooner or later he is going to face a guy who can either take his punch or avoid his punch entirely and that will spell disaster, especially on this forum as all hell will break loose in reiterating what we all already know.

Or he just will struggle to land one clean. You can always think back to Prince Naseem Hamed. His unorthodox style was exciting and enabled him to carry massive power but when it wasnt landing it was missing by miles and looking real sloppy and certainly not scoring round winning points. Then he went up against Barrera and couldnt land flush and struggled to land much.

I think we saw that with Fury, who got up twice when they fought and who many (including me) felt won their fight.

I don't think AJ or Ruiz would've gotten up. Usyk, I don't know but it would be hard to believe he could survive a shot like Ortiz got hit with Saturday night. If they can withstand Wilder's power I would pick all 4 to beat him.

fury is likely the one HW that could have avoided him all night....and he almost did...cept those two times he did not

aj would be landed on....ruiz would be landed on...usyk would be landed on

it stops being a coincidence when he keeps doing it repeatedly

Was awesome seeing Barrera making him look like the clown he was. Swinging wildly at air all night.

If someone can withstand such a hit it's Kownacki or Parker. Ruiz also can be taken into account. For sure not Joshua, Pulev or Povetkin.

There’s only so much you can do with just relying on your power. At some point there will be someone who can take his punch and the power WILL NOT bail you out. I think Wilder is lucky to be blessed with ungodly power but it’s such a damn shame that he has a style that is one dimensional.

I can only imagine how much more deadlier of a fighter he would be if he wasn't just a wild swinger but a calculating boxer-puncher. He’s skilled in his own, non-traditional way but one would have to think how much better he would be if he was taught to fight like Hearns, Foster, or McClellan.

dude he's in his late 30's without a loss as a reigning heavyweight champ.

he's in the company of Marciano. That's about it.
