    Wilder the one trick pony

There's no denying that he has power in that right hand, but that's about all that he has going for him. Basically every aspect of his boxing is sub par except for his power. The man was losing every round against a 40 year old, until his power bailed him out once again. Is he one of the hardest punchers ever? There's a good argument for that. But is he anywhere near the top heavyweights of all time? No,and far from it. When at over 40 fights your top 3 wins are stiverne and Ortiz at 38 and 40,you know you've had soft touches. His entire strategy revolves around him trying to land the right hand before the last bell, but that can only get him so far. The guy is 34,and it's only going to be downhill from here in terms of his speed and reflexes. There will come a point (and it might be soon) in which his right hand won't be able to bail him out,and it will either be because father time takes his toll,or because his leaky defence gets him stopped before he can land the bomb.

Yall gotta stop trying to draw conclusions from that joke. When he wants to be, Wilder is an average-to-decent jabber and has respectable defense. He didn't try to do anything tonight. Ortiz was overmatched , so they made it halfway interesting. Wilder didn't attempt to throw a meaningful punch until the 6th round. Every single punch he threw was at half speed, and some of those grazed Ortiz, who barely kept his gloves up. Wilder threw 2 full speed punches, both in the 7th round. He threw 1 straight right the whole fight.

In 20 years when they interview Wilder, he'll tell you that he wasn't try to KO Ortiz that early, and that was an accident.

Its a hell of a trick though. I just wish he would step in with some top 10 fighters that are not 50 years old or coming off a 3 years drink and drug binge. Id like to see him do his 1 trick to a prime, fit, hungry, powerful top 10 fighter. Wilder hits harder than ANYBODY with that one trick but some of these fighters he has been avoiding hit more than hard enough to sleep him too.

Brah. I think the entire boxing world knows he mostly is that, but that's what makes him so intriguing. It's like, at what point in the night will he possibly get that right hand in and it's all over. He can be outboxed for 12 rds straight and potentially get it in on that final round and end it. That's what at least makes him the most exciting heavyweight out there.

There won't be a Wilder fight that I do not tune into for the rest of his career.

At the end of the day the only thing that really matters is the result you get. People say that he's a terrible boxer who has no technique and this that and the other, but at the end of the day all of his opponents end up flat on their back and usually out for the count. Despite how raw and unskilled he looks he's arguably the most consistent fighter at heavyweight right now. Even if he is a one trick pony it doesn't really matter if his opponents can't come up with a reliable countermeasure to that one trick. Right now it seems like that countermeasure is one of two things, either A) don't make a single mistake the whole fight and never get hit with the right hand or B) get him before he gets you.
