The End is Near For Gatti and Vargas

A championship fighter goes through many paths. At the beginning of his career, it is like traveling through the expressway as he builds up an impressive resume at record speed as he moves towards a championship shot. By the time his career ends, he is traveling off of dirt roads and looking for whatever table scraps that are left. [details]

            What a foolish remark.

Someone do us all a favor, and speak last words about Gatti like it's a marriage or something.

Because as far as I'm concerned, him being systematically broken down and dismantled by Carlos "Tata" Baldomir was not only unexpected and shocking in my view: But a clear Omen that good things do not lie ahead for Gatti if he plans to re-invent himself at 147. I don't really know if he'd make 140, or how well he'd fight there.

He's finished as a fighter, and that's all she wrote.

              ----------------------------------------------------------------

Vargas however I don't think is done. He looked spent in the last Mosley fight, but that was more about Mosley's performance than anything. He was super-accurate with the right hand...and I'd say that's a bad matchup for Vargas any day of the week.

There are thousands of people that would like to see him in another ring brawl....with a taylor made opponent.

As far as his "rise to the top" I'd say that's a bit out of reach.

He's not the same fighter he once was, but he's still as brave and can put people in seats.

The difference being: I don't think he's totally beaten like Gatti is. He's struggled with injuries and weight issues, but hasn't really had it all beaten out of him yet.

i agree. Gatti is finished for sure. Vargas on the other hand could go ahead and give 160 a try but i don't think he could beat the best in the division, i still think he has a few years left in him though.
