15 years old, 6'3 wanna box

So as you already know I'm 15 (16 in 2 months), 6'3 tall (very tall for my age i guess) and I would like to try boxing. I've been following the sport for a while now and I finally feel ready to step in the gym. As far as my physique goes, well I wouldn't say that I'm skinny but I'm not strong. I've gained 13 pounds in the last 2 months since I started working out. I weight 160 pounds but since I'm that tall there's a lot more that can be done. What I've noticed about me is that my legs are 2 times longer and a lot more developed than my torso, so the most of my height comes from the legs. Here are a couple questions:

    1. How does the whole process of signing up works? Do i just walk straight in the gym and be that clown asking for the coach or do I just call him and buy a couple of individual training sessions since I'm a beginner.
    2. Since my legs are 2 times longer than my torso....is that an advantage or a disadvantage?
    3. When does the first sparring session arrive?
    4. If you can then please give me some tips in general about what should I do in the first couple of weeks/months.

    Thanks

You sound like a smart guy. I hope you’re looking at boxing as a hobby, not as a career choice.

Walk into a gym, or call in advance, and ask who do you speak to about getting started. A responsible coach won’t allow you to spar for a while — weeks, maybe months. It all depends on your progress. You’ll be put through training, learning fundamentals, drills, etc. Your physical structure doesn’t sound like an advantage or a disadvantage.

      Good luck.

Hey there, thanks for replying. I am not looking at boxing as a career path. I haven't even started yet.

Glad to hear it. Make sure it stays that way. Lol It’s a fun sport, with a lot of benefits, but it’s no career path I would ever choose for someone with a mind and/or options.

Just get you to a gym and have some fun. You can call, maybe it's different where you're at but locally here they hardly even answer let alone take calls seriously, I'd walk in.

All you really need to do early on is shut up, listen, and be respectful.....and pay gym dues
