Once-beaten junior welterweight contender Ryan Martin has been suspended for four years by UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) on Wednesday after testing positive for prohibited substances last year. According to UKAD, Martin tested positive for the presence of androsterone and etiocholanone, which are metabolites of testosterone, following a a test in connection to his World Boxing Super Series clash against Josh Taylor in Glasgow on Nov. 3, 2018.

Ouch. That’s a hefty ban. Imagine all fighters, no matter their name, were to be hit this hard for failing a drug test?

For your first offense though (is it his first?), I think this is a very long ban. Maybe 1 year is fine. This only sends a message to the no names of boxing though. This ban probably wouldn’t apply to top names. Like what if Joshua tested positive for a banned PED? He’s Europe’s biggest money maker right now in boxing.
