It's 2006 and nothing has changed

Roy Jones Jr. is still fighting bums and Vivian Harris still has no stamina. So many of you posters get worked up over nothing. What are you so excited about? Roy winning a DECISION against a terrible fighter? Harris breathing hard after 4 relatively easy rounds against Stevie Johnston? If I hear one more person say Roy is back or Harris is suddenly some great fighter, I'll lose it.

i agree. while i like harris, i dont think he's great and hes got some problems, but i do like his personality and his style. And id have to watch the jones jr fight, but from what i have heard he should have knocked the guy out and was just toying him with him in the later rounds. And that badi is a bum, and after watching him fight a bunch on like FNS or something, id have to agree

I feel the same way about Harris. I was looking forward to him fighting Hatton and Floyd in 2004 and 2005 until he ran into Maussa. It's not just that he lost to Maussa that turned me off to him, but his attitude about it. He refused to listen in the corner to the sound advice of Steward, which tells me he is a crybaby and a wimp. I know it sounds harsh, but it's true. He called everybody out only to get stopped by Carlos Maussa, who is just pathetic as a fighter. I saw nothing different about Harris last night compared to his performance against Maussa. His corner threatened to stop the fight he was so tired. This guy is his own worst enemy. I really don't see him ever beating a top level fighter. Hatton would just bury him.

I turned off the pay-per-view with Jones and Badi Ajamu as soon as the twelfth round was over. I always- I mean always- wait for the boxers to be interviewed after the desicion is announced. Not this time. I watched an older boxer make a modest return to the ring in a mostly unimpressive fight. Badi Ajamu, as I said in other threads, is barely ranked. He had a lower tier title. Jones never had him hurt, never wobbled him badly, never almost took him out...he just cruised to a victory. A victory against a fringe contender. I nodded towards the television that he had his 'W' and moved on, actually flipping over to the Harris fight (who I have to admit I enjoyed watching much more).

I come on the boards later last night and what do I find? People saying Roy Jones Jr. is back. That he has returned to cast off the shroud of doubt and reclaim his legacy.

All I can say is that scared me. He showed his age...he showed his new, more timid mental state. Roy Jones Jr. should be praised for making it through the fight and winning, but to say he is back to what he was insults what he was. It make me wonder if Mike Tyson, on comeback #33, happens to knock out- Christ, for argument let's say, Vlad...would someone rush on to say Iron Mike is alive and well? That he is exactly who he was? Could one lucky punch make a boxing forum, a forum of knowledable fans, water at the mouth for the return of an older fighter? I am worried the answer is yes.

i agree about the hatton fight. i think it would be an extremely easy fight for hatton. hatton has insane stamina and all he would have to do is wait a couple rounds and let harris punch himself out before pouncing on him and winning the fight. I would still like to see this fight happen if harris can train a lot for it. that would be a great fight.

ANd normally i would say that the bolded comment is a litter harsh, as a fighter has the right to disagree with the guy who his in the corner. Hes fighting, not his cornerman. BUT we are talking about the legendary ES here, u shutup and listen to the man no matter what he says.

Ive noticed that a lot of fighters on ESPN2 and MSG and OLN completely ignore their corner men. idk if its because they arent in good enough shape so they cant pay attention to their corner, but to me its a sign of a weak mental fighter or a ****y fighter.

Yes, it was supposed to begin in April 2005 with Toney vs. Ruiz, Byrd vs. Wladimir, Rahman vs. Vitali, and Brewster vs. Golota.

Brewster crushed Golota and Toney dominated Ruiz

Byrd refused to defend against Wlad in Germany (although he did one year later) and Vitali faked injuries before announcing retirement.

So Brewster and Toney did their part, Rahman and Wlad weren't allowed to do theirs. Now Brewster and Toney don't have titles, but Wlad and Rahman do. Who cares? Wlad and Rahman are the only ones that matter and should be fighting in early 2007 at the very latest.
