Losing all that extra cushion is risky IMO, especially against Wilder. Joshua is doing the same stuff verse Ruiz..

I dunno, maybe it's just me.. we will see

I mean we shall see? Ortiz did fatigue last fight and maybe this helps him keep his stamina or maybe he left it all in training.

Agreed. This could be a good move. He lost the last fight simply because he totally gassed out. He even stopped sweating after round 7. That is a horrible sign if you ever see that. He literally had nothing left to give.

I don't. Both Ortiz and Ruiz were way too fat. Losing some of that fat slowly can only do them good. Losing fat does not make a heavyweight have a weaker chin. If it did Wilder should have a glass jaw because he carries almost no fat. I expect Wilder to KO Ortiz early but not because Ortiz lost weight. I just think Wilder will learn from the first fight and fight a better fight. I expect Ruiz to KO AJ again and think the weight Ruiz lost should make him faster and help his stamina and work rate. I don't think excess blubber helps any boxer in any way no matter what weight class they fight in. Look at all the great heavyweight champions of the past. Were any of them fat???? No they were not.

I'm not a fan of fighters coming into a fight looking like a weight lifter. There is nothing wrong with carrying a few extra pounds of fat. I actually think it's good if your stamina doesn't suffer. I think it's better for a fighter to fight at the weight his body naturally wants to be at rather than worrying about being cut. Ruiz should come in somewhat chubby but not obese like he did in his last fight. I think that's why a number of smaller heavyweights have had good success over the years.

Yes it will. He wont be as durable taking shots and now Wilder will walk thru his. I fully expect Ruiz and Ortiz to get stopped.

I have mixed feelings about this. For one, Ortiz isn’t used to this weight. A championship fight isn’t the time to get acclimated. Another thing is that he won’t have as much weight behind his punches, which will make them less forceful. Also, he may not take punches, especially to the body, as well, given that his body mass is less. On the other hand, Luis may have increased his stamina. Last time out, he was spent in the later rounds. It’ll be interesting to see what effect this new conditioning has on his performance.

Would be wild if Ortiz wins lol

I really would love to see Ortiz fight Joshua or Ruiz to see where they're at

Maybe he feels it’ll help his stamina. Who knows, maybe it’ll be worse for him.

The fact is that he’s looking old and has been unable to go through the gears in his last few fights. He looked tired and one paced. So maybe he feels it’ll give him ability to go through the gears a bit more.

Maybe he’s making making a change because he’s facing a man that knocked him out before, so he feels he can’t go in the same. Changing too much sometimes indicates some self doubt.

Has he actually even lost that much weight or in different shape?
