When a fighter takes a hard punch and...

Shakes his head to say you never hurt me does that mean he is always hurt ?

To me it DOESNT always. Jones does it alot in his career, when he was hurt you knew it. Quartey does it often with a little grin. Winky Wright does it almost everytime he gets hit ( watch the Mosely fight, he did it every time Shane hit him )

Pacquaio likes to add a little dance with his hands in the air ( see Morales and Barerra fights ) Delahoya does in often too but hard to tell if he's hurt or not. In the first Mosely fight he did it a lot but I know Shane hurt him in that fight.

WIth Jones though in the first Tarver fight you knew he was hurt everytime he was on the ropes and got clipped with Tarvers left hand yet he kept shaking his head like "nope" that didnt hurt! lol

Theres no point to this thread really...I just thought it was an inresting topic of discussion.

yes, ive noticed that a lot of times, some dance their way out of the situation, its a good strategy if you got skill and confidence like zab, morales, roy etc...

It doesnt always mean your hurt like alot of people think. Most of the times it just means you got hit with a clean punch that shocked the guy. Not shocked in a hurt way but shocked as in, "oh you got more skills then I thought" or "that was a nice shot". It is also when you get hit clean but you didnt get hurt at all, like when Gatti hit Baldy.

99% of the time it means you got hit clean and then after that the response can mean anything, including you got hurt

Yeah this can mean any number of things. Either the guy is really hurt, he's shaking the cobwebs outta his head, or he is sort of taunting the guy to come in. I think in most cases I've seen though, they are hurt, borderline shaking the cobwebs out.

i disagree with roy. I know for a fact in the 5th round vs glen johnson he got hit with a straihg tot he temple and was almost KO's he was liked stunned and lost balance for about 2 seconds then he shook his head.

Hard to tell with Roy. On the ropes against Tarver shaking his head dude was hurt bad. I dont remember the 5th round of the Johnson fight but Jones shaking his head is trademarka anyways! I'm sure the punch rocked him though

90% of the time they are admitting they got hit with a good punch. Every time Byrd goes "Woooo!" it's because he got hit square in the face for example. They're not always hurt, but they are always shook up when they respond like that.

I think some guys might smile once they get hit with something good. I think Rahman said he caught Lennox with a punch and Lennox smiled and then we all know he knocked Lennox on his ass.

but it better not to show anything not glint of emotion.

                  Why?

Because once you opponent know that your hurt he will come charging forward.

I remeber in Ouma vs Kofi( not sure about the name)
Ouma got hit with a big right overhead right straight on the chin but he kept coming forward, he even did close his eyes. Roy Jones was in the commetator and said a guy like that seen a lot of things in his life so a punch wont scare him. It made Kofi really fustrated because he was a strong puncher
