Comments Thread For: Abner Mares Cleared For Sparring, Aims For Early 2020 Return

Abner Mares will end 2019 without having entered a single fight, but will at least end the year on a high note. The former three-division titlist has been given a clean bill of health and cleared to return to the ring, with plans for his next fight to take place in the first quarter of 2020.

He lost the Vic fight and a kept on hitting Abeko low. He should take care of himself instead of risking permanent injury

He beat Vic but shouldve been disqualified against Agebeko. & i agree, his health should come first.

I've been scratching my head wondering how he got that Fox Sports gig in the first place. He's pretty damn awful as a commentator and analyst IMO.

I don't like to see any fighter hurt for life.

My Christmas gift would have been for Mares to retire. He really sucks.

A whole discussion full of haters you don't become a 3 division champion being a bum he should've beat Perez, he beat Darchinyan should have been DQed against Agbeko I agree but he soundly beat him in the rematch then he went up in weight and beat Anselmo Moreno who is tied for most defenses of the bantamweight title and hadn't lost in 10 years prior to that.

He then went up in weight again and knocked out Ponce De Leon only other person who did that was Juan Ma and he had some of the heaviest hands at 126. Yeah he lost to Gonzalez and instead of fading away he got back to fighting decent fights before he fought and schooled Cuellar when everyone thought he was getting knocked out to become a 2 time featherweight champ if he retired he has a solid resume already but if he feels fit enough to continue and the doctor cleared him then thats his choice.
