    Whoop Whoop! War Cali!

Combination of the Mexican fighting tradition allied with US money and facilities I guess. Be intersting to find out how many Pro boxers actually live in California though, just to work the numbers.

I'd bear in mind that the figures given for Latvia and Nicargua can't really be given much statistical weight given that we're only talking 1 fighter from each of them (though it is worth noting that both countries have an absurdly high # of boxers per capita), there's always gonna be an element of chance where talents come from and 1 fighter from this or that country doesn't represent a statistically significant trend (though of course Nicaragua had Chocolatito up there til a coupla years back so maybe they got something in the water).

Here ya go !WAR MEXICO!. Interesting figures in the final column - pro boxers/million population. Mexico and surprisingly UK have a lot of boxers per capita. Unsurprisingly the former Soviet countries (and Cuba) have relatively few, with their success mainly coming through a few elite amateurs turning pro.
NICE NICE, ima add it to the OP> thanks for the work.

        Hold on, just realized...
Mikey Garcia (from California) vacated all of his Titles; so he doesn't show up in the 'official' count.

        F&ck that...
        California could/should have 6 Fighters with Titles (0.1538 Champs/Pop)

        -- EDIT --

A ton of great Boxer live/train in California, particularly in So Cal/Los Angeles area, but are FROM other countries and states. Lomachenko and Gennady are two of the biggest examples of that (so that would be a different topic).

But I'd say, between the caliber of fighters that TRAIN there, and who are FROM there...

L.A. is currently the MECCA of BOXING.

Mmm. Guys who have vacated are kinda another question... I mean Ukraine has Usyk of course, and his 4 cruiser titles. Guess the way to do it is to keep an updated running list, but fux if I'm gonna be the one to do it, my lazy ass barely keeps on top of the Pick Em games.

And yeah, course what I shoulda said would be guys who come from Cali originally or at least lived there most of their lives.

USA will always have the greatest athletes in the world. They're just among the rest in the funnel of the nature of struggle. There has never been a country like this in the history of mankind, and it breeds success. Capitalism brings dreams like never before.

You quite sure you want to go down that path, man...?

EDIT: But yeah, absolutely there is a very valid point in there, countries like the Ukraine or Russia are very top heavy. Although now more fighters are starting out in the pro Ranks or having relatively short Ammy careers, until quite recently only top level amateurs were turning pro.

I'm just presenting the data, man, I ain't some kinda nationalist trying to push one country as being 'better' than another, nor am I gonna tell you how you need to interpret it. The observation I made is based on the figures I've provided, but you're quite entitled to read into 'em anything that suits your fancy. All I'm pointing out is that it's hardly surprising the US and Mexico appear dominant when they have so many more pro fighters than everywhere else. It's also worth noting that this is just a snapshot and it's changing all the time. A few years ago the UK actually had more titles and titlists that the US or Mexico. Go back a few months Ukraine had Usyk and Gvozdyk which meant they were punching way over their weight for the reasons already mentioned.

But whilst we're here we might want to ask what effect having the most money tied in the sport and being the home of sanctioning bodies plays in the opportunities for getting title shots.
I don’t care who is the best, I respect all the countries’ boxers, but there’s a ton of people on here who fail to concede that North America is simply the hotbed of boxing.

That’s just simply a fact no matter how anyone slices it.

I’d say Southern California is the Mecca of boxing. L.A., Riverside, San Diego, Oxnard, Indio etc. all contribute.

Always is a long time, man. I'd like to imagine that since we're basically all genetically the same that if all humans were given the same opportunities, facilities and motivations they'd end producing much the same level of athlete regardless where they are from.

Undoubtedly in the current world of massive inequality the US is a huge magnet for global talent and a great developer of it's homegrown athletes, but I'd like to imagine a world in which everyone, everywhere had the same opportunites.

Besides, if you actually look at the breakdowns for boxing it turns out that per capita talent is spread a lot more evenly across the major boxing nations than it might appear at first glance.

Absolutely it is, both historically and into the present, but equally it's not wrong to observe that globally talent is spread out more equally than some might realise, nor is it wrong to observe that at least some of the North American dominance is down to weight of numbers.
