The WBA sanctioned a fight for their “super” world championship between Takashi Uchiyama and Thanakorn Pawachart. Uchiyama won making him the “super” champion.
Jezreel Corrales beat him and became “super” champion. He defended that title once.
The WBA then took away that title and gave it to Gervonta Davis for no reason. Davis never had to fight a mandatory and was only given the title after losing his IBF title on the scales. Corrales was downgraded to “regular” WBA champion for no reason.
Alberto Machado then won that “regular” title from Corrales. Cancio then won it from Machado.
Davis moves up to lightweight and vacates the title.
Instead of giving it to Cancio, who deserves it because he beat the man who beat the man who actually beat a “super” champion and won that “super” belt in the ring, they’re going to give it to Leo Santa Cruz who just moved up in weight.
It’s worth noting that the “super” title was originally only supposed to exist if someone was a unified champion but we’re obviously ignoring those rules too.

Dude I appreciate you giving this breakdown. It's as clear as day and unjustifiable by the WBA's actions. What an insult to the sport and the fighters that put in the work to get to that status. Cancio has every reason to feel cheated. People can call Santa Cruz the champ of his divison but real boxing fans know who the real champ is
The WBA didn't elevate Canelo and Pacquiao to super champion when they won the regular belt but Santa Cruz fighting a bum ranked #138 and Tank fighting a bum coming off a loss and moving up in weight get special treatment. The WBA is just a PBC subsidiary. Gilberto Mendoza is Haymon's puppet.

Cancio basically holds an inferior version of the belt that used to be called the regular version. Santa cruz is fighting for the super version of the wba belt, which is supposed to be the best/absolute version of the title. which overall means that according to the wba cancio is their 2nd best champ & leo santa cruz will be their best champion when he wins it. Cancio belt isnt actually rated as a belt by some boxing organizations. It's all very confusing & corrupt to the core

Also adding that the guy who leo is fighting for the belt is completely unworthy, lost every significant in which he stepped up & is on a 2 fight win streak against journeymen with more loses then wins. Yet somehow the guy is ranked number 2 in the world. Its Completely laughable
