I recently had an evening with lots of old friends, who used to go to fights etc. I was genuinely surprised to discover that every one of them now follows UFC.
I explained that I still have an interest in boxing, but we're lucky to 3 meaningful fights a year, which is exactly why they jumped over. UFC has ONE PERSON making the fights and the best always fight the best.
Boxing now has multiple belts, multiple promoters, advisors, cashcows and network obligations. Some boxers are now so protected that you need to knock them out to be awarded a draw.
I looked back at both sports over the last year and imo WBSS is the closest thing to the UFC that boxing has in terms of good fights.
Didn't boxings biggest star just bow to UFC?
