i'm so used to getting my hopes up for title fights,
but they usually end up with 2 world class fighters dancing around each other to a conservative decision

      inoue-donaire was different.

I was away and missed the fight live, I didn't know the results but heard it was good.

        I was shocked.

Both men left it all in the ring, every ounce of will, soul, blood, sweat and tears. It was hats, at times it was brutal, inoue had an eye that looked ready to explode, Donaire was beaten to the body but back up...just.. somehow both men ended the fight without lasting impact. Yet it is impossible to know how much it will affect the young man's career and the old lions last few roars.

I'd be up for a rematch and another one after that. I'd be up for donaire having one more shot at other titles in that division. I'd be up for inoue, the monster among small men, inviting estrada, or rungvisai or Gonzalez to his domain. Heck, what about Tete?? He has a reputation to reignite.

Superfly and bantam could and should mix. There are great fights to be made between men who have fought the best more often than not.

With all the troubles boxing has had this year, at least we had two wbss tournaments. If the year ends with the heavyweight division putting on a show, 2019 would go some way in redeeming itself.

That's because we mostly get bogus title fights between a champion and a chump. What we've seen across all the wbss tournaments is the best quality match ups and they have delivered in 3 divisions.

Who would have thought matching the best with the best will likely put on good fights ?

Kalle Saurland may look like a shady, gurning coke-head; but there's no doubt came up with a fantastic idea with the the WBSS, which has undeniably produced some of the best fights of the last few years.
I'd hope that at some time, mr's Sulaiman, Mendoza, Varcarcel and Peoples cotton on to the fact that if they band together and take some of the power away from individual promoters then they could make could make an absolute killing by putting on high profile events like the WBSS.

This was a great fight and great for the sport of boxing. I rewatched it again and Donaire did not get up at the count of 10 it was more like 11 or 12 should have been ruled a KO. Nonetheless, big props to him for even getting up. I hope Inoue can return as the same boxer but when your orbital bone fractures it can be very dangerous to be hit in that same spot in future bouts.

Boxing should get rid of all the alphabet groups and just do a WBSS tournament in every weight class.

The sport would be better for it.

Agree completely. Touched on what this fan felt and I'm sure many others. Great fight. Great concept (WBSS) and great article!
