Australian middleweight contender Michael Zerafa is in agony in the aftermath of the tragic sparring accident which led to the death of close friend Dwight Ritchie. As BoxingScene.com previously reported, Ritchie was having a sparring session with Zerafa on Saturday, as both boxers had scheduled fights next month. Zerafa is training for his rematch with former welterweight champion Jeff Horn.

I glanced at a headline about a fighter dying in sparring but didn't know Zefara was the one who delivered the punch. Crazy.

First time I hear about a fighter dying because of a body shot.

That’s a heartbreaker, I cannot imagine how Zerafa could go ahead with his scheduled fight after that. Not that it would make any difference to Ritchie’s family but for Zerafa’s sake I hope it was a medical condition unrelated to the body shot he took.

Suspected heart attack but I guess that there will be a coronial inquiry given the circumstances. Doubt that Horn will agree to a fight delay for which he will cop social media flak but fighting is business and time costs.
