I wonder if one day soon, we reach a point where boxers strength far outweighs the amount of punishment we can take, then we have a problem.

Whether people like to admit it or not, boxers now are faster, stronger and more powerful than in the past. Every sport evolves, it’s just harder to measure in boxing because there’s no official measurement like in athletics or something where there’s a definitive time or measurement record, but we would be ignorant to think other sports athletes are better than the past and boxing isn’t.

We just don’t realise these things because we watch great fighters and fights from the past and they look great, but it’s all relative to the opposition too. Go watch Carl Lewis race in the 80’s and he looks like he’s absolutely flying. Drop him in a 100m race today at that speed and he would get left behind and nobody can dispute that because the facts are there.

Of course, give him all the same training and nutrition then it’d be different, but that’s the point isnt it. All today’s boxers have great nutrition and coaching to make them even stronger, but i think humans can only take so much punishment.

Only with today’s nutrition and training

Every sport evolves, it’s a fact. Boxing is literally the only sport that doesn’t? You must be dumb to think that

Some people don’t wanna hear it but it’s the truth

It sounds like a condition where the blow shakes the heart at a particular part of the space between the beats. It happened to a junior kickboxing champion a few weeks ago, happens in Rugby sometimes. Very sad for a young man who'd battled through so much.

That's what I was wondering, look at that body punch Donaire copped, a slight delay and he took a knee obviously in lots of pain.

                RIP Cowboy

Bizarre and sad. How many ring deaths are from body blows? It seems to be brain damage more than anything.

Houdini (not a boxer of course) died due to a body punch. But it wasn't so quick. He died of peritonitis caused by a ruptured appendix.

Seems the KO body blow is usually a shot to the liver, which just happens to take ten or fifteen seconds too long to recover from. This guy was a champion, with an impressive record. He lost his last fight, but was doing very well for many years.
