Naoya Inoue rejects WBC Diamond title

WBC 'Diamond' belts are not that bad in principle, given that they can facilitate unification ; as it carries a mandatory against the WBC champion. However, recent 'Diamond' champions usually don't call for their shot on the grounds of the purse split. Such was the case with : Kovalev-Stevenson, Garcia-Linares, and Ramirez-Prograis recently.
Good idea, but not practical in many instances.
Note: Naoya Inoue brother Takuma lost to the actual WBC 118 pound champion Nordine Oubaali on the undercard ; it was a dream for the brothers to become co-champion in the bantamweight division. I think part of the motive in rejecting the 'Diamond' belt was a gesture of consideration and love for Takuma -- I would do the same.Comment

Um, the diamond belt can help you become mandatory challenger to the actual title holder. Does Inoue not want to avenge his brothers loss?
Inoue looked vulnerable, Steve Kim loses all credibility ranking this guy #1 p4p over fighters like Canelo and Lomachenko.Comment

This was likely the reason. Its to do with commission compliance. Japanese Boxing Commission doesn't recognize those titles.Last edited by Gideon lock; 11-07-2019, 07:00 PM.Comment

Whilst I wish it was true... that wasn’t the WBC diamond belt. Assuming it was Inoue’s own WBC Light Fly title.Comment
